Security

No secrets, no known holes, and security is designed, not hoped for.

Each level adds measures; a level is reached when its measures and all measures below meet their thresholds. Measures and levels are fixed by the danwos model (The fixed danwos model deci... (DEC_DANWOS_MODEL)); a project only says where the results come from.

Level 1 – Sketched

No secrets in the repo.

Level 2 – Shaped

No known high/critical vulnerabilities in dependencies.

Level 3 – Solid

SAST security rules 0 high.

Level 4 – Refined

Threat model exists and is current; security update process.

Level 5 – Audited

External pen test or audit.

Possible checks

Examples – which check feeds which measure is the project’s choice.

  • secrets: gitleaks, trufflehog

  • vulnerable dependencies: osv-scanner, npm audit, pip-audit

  • SAST security rules: semgrep, CodeQL

  • threat model as a document (existence, then review)

  • pen test or audit evidence
